Richmond, Virginia January 21, 1780 Benedict Arnold was one of America’s best generals. He later became a leader to the British troops because he felt he was not getting the credit he deserved for his American victories. He was known for burning down towns, especially Richmond, Virginia in 1780. He needed money and that’s why he sold the information to the British about the fort of West Point in New York. He was one of the world greatest traitors beside Hitler.
Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich Connecticut. Arnold was one of a number of Benedict Arnold including an early governor of Rhode Island and his father. He was known as an American Revolutionary general and most infamous traitor. Benedict Arnold tried to take Quebec however a rainstorm prevented any movement for three days. Arnold was a druggist’s apprentice. Arnold led the local militia company of which he was captain.
Benedict Arnold was trying to help the US in the war against the British. He was a great leader and captain of the governors. He tried to invade an entire city to help win the war. Benedict was using troops from the governor. He got some aid by the British and lots of other aid by the colonist. He was placed to watch over 1100 men and had to lead.
Benedict Arnold had a brilliant career in the continental army. He lead the US troops in many battles, however he felt he never received credit for all his hard work. One of his solder stated, “Arnold was the bravest man that ever lived.” All of his disappointment, anger and debt led Arnold to become a traitor to his country. He moved to England and died in London in 1801.
